sylvander to crda 注释标题 a grass-widow, rs &039;lehose

extepore reply to verses addressed to the author by a dy, under the signature of “crda” and entitled, on burns sayg he &039;had nothg else to do&039;

when dear crda, atchless fair,

first struck sylvander&039;s raptur&039;d view,

he gaz&039;d, he listened to despair,

as! &039;as all he dared to do

love, fro crda&039;s heavenly eyes,

transfixed his bo thro&039; and thro&039;;

but still friendships&039; guarded guise,

for ore the deon fear&039;d to do

that heart, already ore than lost,

the ip beleaguer&039;d all perdue;

for frowng honour kept his post—

to et that frown, he shrunk to do

his pangs the bard refed to own,

tho&039; half he wish&039;d crda knew;

but anguish wrung the unweetg groan—

who bs what frantic pa t do?

that heart, where otley follies blend,

was sternly still to honour true:

to prove crda&039;s fondest friend,

was what a lover sure ight do

the e his ready ill eployed,

no nearer bliss he uld pursue;

that bliss crda ld deny&039;d—

“send word by charles how you do!”

the chill behest disar&039;d his e,

till passion all ipatient grew:

he wrote, and hted for exce,

&039;as, &039;cae “he&039;d nothg else to do”

but by those hopes i have above!

and by those faults i dearly rue!

the deed, the boldest ark of love,

for thee that deed i dare uo do!

o uld the fates but na the price

would bless with your chars and you!

with frantic joy i&039;d pay it thrice,

if huan art and power uld do!

then take, crda, friendship&039;s hand,

(friendship, at least, i ay avow;)

and y no ore your chill and,—

i&039;ll write whatever i&039;ve to do
