prayer—o thou dread power
lyg at a reverend friend&039;s hoe one night, the author left the follog verses the roo where he slept:—
o thou dread power, who reign&039;st above,
i know thou wilt hear,
when for this scene of peace and love,
i ake this prayer scere
the hoary sire—the ortal stroke,
long, long be pleas&039;d to spare;
to bless this little filial flock,
and show what good n are
she, who her lovely offsprg eyes
with tender hopes and fears,
o bless her with a other&039;s joys,
but spare a other&039;s tears!
their hope, their stay, their darlg youth
anhood&039;s dawng bsh,
bless hi, thou god of love and truth,
up to a parent&039;s wish
the beauteo, seraph sister-band—
with earnest tears i pray—
thou know&039;st the snares on ev&039;ry hand,
guide thou their steps alway
when, on or te, they reach that ast,
o&039;er life&039;s rough ocean driven,
ay they rejoice, no wand&039;rer lost,
a faily heaven!
